It is important to find out whether or not your dog needs to be on a leash or if it can roam free. By all means bring a long leash, but know ahead of time if there will be an area where a leash is not required. If your dog is allowed off-leash, make sure it’s under your voice control so it doesn’t wander too far. Keep in mind that some beachgoers will be less dog friendly than others. Children can also be easily frightened by dogs, so be aware of who your dog is approaching. Never leave your dog alone. Even the best trained dog can be distracted. Finally, pay close attention to your surroundings and any possible situations that could cause your dog to wander or escape.
