A little background on how we became new foster parents. A few years ago, when COVID suddenly disrupted our lives and the first Lockdowns began, my husband and I joined the animal-loving community to help feed the street dogs of Indie. That’s how we found a beautiful group of puppies that were lost in the park without their mother. They were only a few weeks old and we spent a lot of time feeding them. One of them was a very active and playful puppy and one of our friends immediately named him Raju as it was his favorite name for any dog.
Raju became shy for a day and became the happy but powerful Alpha of the pack. Unfortunately, tragedy struck him and he was apparently beaten by a mob in the middle of the night when he was six months old and broke his spine. Raju the strong boy was crippled and in a lot of pain – many doctors told us to put him down. Finally one of them agreed to the surgery and brought him home, hoping that one day he will be able to walk and run like normal dogs. However, two years later, while he is able to stand and walk a little, he is still disabled and cannot control himself but runs in a wheelchair that we found for him. Raju is a hiker who has been through beaches and forests and now has a wonderful holiday in the mountains. His sister, Ceyshu has always been with him in problems and tricks, and she started living with us months ago and this trip was the first time she left home.
Aurika Coorg leads the way when it comes to animal friendliness. This pet friendly place in Coorg has more than 95 dog and cat guests so far including 30 Indies. Most of the friendly resorts tend to ignore the Indies and prefer sweet and simple sweets. They also have several restrictions. However, Aurika Coorg had one of them except that it was outside the zoo.

Raju the disabled dog also has special needs. Although we have taken her to boutique hotels in Ooty and Bangalore and other tourist spots near Bangalore, we are a little worried whether she will be comfortable here or not. But Aurika Coorg made sure she felt comfortable right from the start. Animals are our guests is their mantra, and they wear animal friendliness, as you can see above the door, said General Manager Sanjay Pandita who welcomed us. While we were drinking, Raju and Aishu were happy to welcome us. We even register them as pets at the time of booking with details.
The rooms had beds for the pets, good food and toys, and they loved it. Everything is thoughtfully designed with your pet’s safety and comfort in mind. There were bowls for serving food and water. With meals prepared for dogs, they can even sit with you in the restaurant at private tables.
The staff treated the animals with such love that Raju and Aishu felt comfortable there. They walked and ran with us, rolled in the grass, sunbathed, chased squirrels and birds, looked out over the wide lawn from their porches, and they disguised themselves and went to sleep, dreaming of many strange events.
But there is more to Aurika Coorg than just being a luxury zoo. Spread over 45 acres, the beautifully designed property offers you a view of the Western Ghats rainforest and coffee and aromatic plants. Every part of the house tells a story, whether it’s the art installation in the reception area or the artistic wood used to frame other furniture. You can go bird watching, go on nature walks, and farm tours, and even try your hand at brewing coffee.
