Dog-friendly Travel Tips – One of our favorite things about traveling by van is that we get to bring our dogs with us. We travel full time on the road with our two dogs, Chief and Storm. Let’s talk about traveling with our dogs in the van. We will start with their childhood, where we collect food, dog water bowls from the van, why we go to the “hidden place”, offline training, and routine in the city.
While we were still working in San Diego, we were living in a van and on a boat around the time we adopted the Commander. While Chris was working as a security guard in San Diego, his co-workers asked if he was interested in puppies. A colleague at that time had an accident when he fed the wrong child. Next thing you know they have 10 puppies in a two bedroom apartment. We went to the apartment to look at the puppies. We decided to choose a sleeping puppy because we thought he would be a cool baby. Man, we were wrong!

Almost two years later we decided we needed a second dog. We are looking to adopt siblings for similar ages. While scrolling through Craigslist, we came across a storm notice. At the time her name was Penny, and she was described as 11 months old, playing well with dogs and children, an escape artist, and knows some commands. We think she will be an excellent candidate to be the head’s partner. Where we live in Humboldt County California. So we drove two hours north to a dog park to meet the storm. They just played sometimes and we said OK, go home. The rest is history.
Dog Car Travel Tips For Safety
The one grew up on the boat and in the van. So this world is not new to him. And he likes to ride the storm. We are very lucky to have an adaptable dog. This is not the case for all dogs.
We store about 1 month of dog food in a 50 pound dog food container. It’s durable and airtight, so it keeps everything fresh and safe. We flavor them with wild dog food. They eat at the same time every day at 7pm before going to bed. The head tells us when to eat, by looking at our soul hahaha. We don’t need to monitor how much water they drink. For their water bowls, we use large recycled potato barrels. It is square and fits perfectly in the step, in the sliding door. We add a bowl of potato salad once or twice a day.
Our favorite campsites are the ones where we can roll out our blankets. So we call these special points “mud out points”. As we live in a van with two large dogs; We want the dogs to have their own space. Whenever we go camping in the forest or on the beach, we can lay down a carpet. When the carpet is laid out they have a total area of 9 x 12 feet. It gives them a home base to go to and keeps them from laying in a lot of dirt. We have a dog attached to a 10 foot lead that is attached to an anchor point on the bottom of the cabinet.
Over time, the head and the storm are growing through the puppy stage. Now we can trust them a little more with the leash, giving them more space to roam safe and secure. What helps us is a lot of training with playing with a frisbee or with tasty food. With patience and consistency, we improved their recall orders.
Tips For Hassle Free Travel With The Dog
We are rarely alone in the city. However, when we are there, we tend to keep a strict routine to ourselves. One of the first things we do in the morning is find a local dog park to take the dog to. This gives them the ability to fully exercise themselves in a short period of time while still being able to socialize with other dogs. In the city, we have a little van. This is when the van feels the smallest. We usually take the dog for a long walk in the evening anywhere between 30 and 40 minutes. This allows them to get a full day of exercise while also having the ability to meet other people.
Most national parks are not very dog friendly due to the impact they can have on the environment. For this reason, we rarely visit them other than for a scenic drive. On days when we want to do something that isn’t dog friendly, we take them on an exciting walk or a walk that tires them out in the morning. Then we went out to explore a bit and they sat in the van. We have two MaxxAir fans that have the ability to draw air in or out at 10 different speeds. In addition, there is an internal fan with two positions. With the combination of those fans plus the window covering, the dog can stay cool when the conditions are right.
Oregon is one of our favorite summer destinations, and it’s very dog friendly. From coastal state parks and waterfall trails, there are plenty to choose from that are dog-friendly. It was great to take them on hikes whenever we chose while in Oregon. Finding a dog-friendly place on the West Coast wasn’t much of a problem for us.
It was a great experience to travel across the United States with eight tracks. Yin and Strom and we feel more confident and safe when we travel on the road, they can smell better than us and they can see better than us. They went to Mexico in the winter and Washington in the summer. Swim in the warm waters of Baja and then plunge into a cool mountain lake. They live life so well and it makes “inconvenience” meaningless.

If you and your dog want to explore a ghost town, you’re in luck. Ouray has many ghost towns to visit.
One of the easiest to get to (with lots of buildings) is Ironton. Located between Silverton and Ouray, this ghost town is a fun destination for history buffs and nature lovers. Ironton is part of the Red Mountain Mining District, which includes several towns on both sides of Red Mountain Pass. It became an important transportation hub between Ouray and the mining camps of Red Mountain County, but as time passed and mining slowed, the town was abandoned. Today the city receives many visitors from curious tourists (and their four-legged friends).
Isn’t he wandering to explore the high country? No problem – explore with ease by jeep! This is one of the most popular outdoor activities in the region, and if you bring your own jeep, you can get up and go with your dog whenever you want. No jeep, no problem – there are many jeep rentals in the area, including American Switzerland and Colorado West. Your furry friend can come with you, but make sure you call and let them know when booking your jeep, as you will have to pay a small fee.
